PROGRAM DESIGN

We split StuyPrep into three parts.

Part One

In Part One of the program, all students participate in a virtual SHSAT preparation course led by an instructor from a licensed test prep provider (e.g. CAS Prep, Five Points Learning, Helicon, or Kweller Prep).

This portion of StuyPrep takes place online with up to 20 students per room.

Part Two

In Part Two, students complete additional preparation with guidance from the assigned test prep provider they worked with in Part 1, either online or in-person at the provider's location. Students will also benefit from meeting current Stuyvesant students and alumni.

This portion of StuyPrep takes place in-person or virtually (based on your application and availability of the classroom) with up to 20 students per class.

Part Three

In Part Three, students complete additional preparation with guidance from the assigned test prep provider they worked with in Part 1 in collaboration with current Stuyvesant students and alumni.

This portion of StuyPrep takes place in-person at Stuyvesant High School (345 Chambers Street in Manhattan) with up to 20 students per class.

Throughout the StuyPrep program, students can ask direct questions of Stuyvesant students and alumni about the SHSAT, attending a specialized high school, and life after high school.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

StuyPrep is free for all students accepted into the Program. We will provide materials and instruction. Transportation costs will remain the responsibility of the family.

We expect all participants in the program to be prepared and attend each week, having completed all assigned work, and having invested time into independent study.

We also expect students to attend all sessions, be on time, and to show proper respect for their peers and the staff operating the program.

A student's acceptance into the StuyPrep program does not guarantee that he/she/they will be invited to continue in the program to its end. In particular, StuyPrep will choose not to invite students to participate in later phases of the program in cases of two or more unexplained absences, lateness, poor behavior, or lack of motivation.
