Please read more about our program below. If you have any questions, please feel free to send us an e-mail so that we can help you learn more about StuyPrep.

We split StuyPrep into two parts.

Part One

In Part One of the program, students take a complete SHSAT preparation course led by an instructor from Kaplan.

This portion of StuyPrep takes place in a classroom environment with 30 students per room.

Part Two

In Part Two, students complete additional preparation with guidance from current Stuvyesant students and alumni.

Students also receive specialized small-group tutoring from current Stuyvesant students, who took the SHSAT within the last few years themselves.

At the end of StuyPrep, students can ask direct questions of students and alumni about the test, attending a specialized high school, and life after high school

In Part One of the program, students will work at one of our locations across New York City. In Part Two of the program, students will attend sessions at Stuyvesant.

Part One

As part of the application process, you will be asked to rank your choices for where you want to attend Part One classes. We will do our best to give everyone their top choice.

The 2020 locations are:

  1. St. Francis College - 180 Remsen St., Brooklyn

  2. M.S. 61 - 400 Empire Blvd., Brooklyn

  3. KIPP Infinity - 625 W. 133rd St., New York

  4. Queens location to be announced.

Part Two

During the second phase, all students will come to Stuyvesant High School. The program will provide free bus service to Stuyvesant High School, and back. School buses will pick children up from the location they attended Part One classes.

StuyPrep is 100% free for all students accepted into the Program. We will provide materials, instruction, and transportation to and from Stuyvesant (during Part Two).

We expect all participants in the program to come prepared each week, having completed all assigned work, and having invested time into independent study.

We also expect students to attend all sessions, be on time, and to show proper respect for their peers and the staff operating the program.

A student's acceptance into the StuyPrep program does not guarantee that he or she will be invited to continue in the program to its end. In particular, StuyPrep will choose not to invite students to participate in Part Two of the program in cases of two or more unexplained absences, lateness, poor behavior, or lack of motivation.
