DEADLINE TO APPLY: MARCH 2, 2025

PROGRAM DESIGN

We split StuyPrep into three parts.

Part One - Spring

In Part One of the program, students will start the program by taking a practice test at Stuyvesant High School, which will help us determine what areas to focus on with your student during the course of the program.

After the first practice test, which will be administered at Stuyvesant, students will meet weekly with an instructor from a licensed test prep provider (e.g. AdmissionSquad, CAS Prep, Five Points Learning, Helicon, K12 Tutoring, or Kweller Prep) to learn content and test taking strategies as part of their SHSAT preparation. â€‹

If you are in a virtual class, we will contact you to set up a regular schedule of three one-hour classes each week. Virtual classes will have about 5 students per class.

If you are in an in-person class, you will meet for a three-hour class each Saturday at the provider's location. In-Person classes will have about 10 students per class.

Part Two - Summer

In Part Two, students complete additional preparation with guidance from the assigned test prep provider they worked with in Part One, either online or in-person at the provider's location. Students will take additional practice tests, and also benefit from meeting current Stuyvesant students and alumni throughout the program.

Part Three - Fall

In Part Three, students complete additional preparation with guidance from the assigned test prep provider they worked with in Part One and Part Two.

If you are in a virtual class, you will take your final practice test and review session in-person at Stuyvesant.

If you are in an in-person class, you will meet for your three-hour class each Saturday at Stuyvesant High School (345 Chambers Street in Manhattan).

Throughout the StuyPrep program, students can ask direct questions of Stuyvesant students and alumni about the SHSAT, attending a specialized high school, and life after high school.

LOCATION

In Part One of the program, students will either be online or in-person, based on their placement. In-person locations are available in Brooklyn, Queens, or Manhattan (based on your student's application and availability of the classroom). In Part Three of the program, most students will attend sessions at Stuyvesant High School.

Part One and Part Two

As part of the application process, you will be asked to rank your choices for if you want to be in a virtual class or where you want to attend in-person classes. We will do our best to give everyone their top choice. We appreciate your understanding where space is limited.

The 2025 locations and providers are:

  1. Virtual (Online) - K12 Tutoring and CAS Prep

  2. Park Slope (Brooklyn) - Five Points Learning

  3. Forest Hills (Queens) - Kweller Prep

  4. Lower Manhattan - AdmissionSquad and Helicon

Part Three

During Part Three, most students will come to Stuyvesant High School to meet with their instructors and current Stuyvesant students, and to take practice tests.

Throughout the StuyPrep program, students and families will have opportunities to tour Stuyvesant and meet with current students and alumni.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

StuyPrep is free for all students accepted into the Program. We will provide materials and instruction. Food and Transportation costs will remain the responsibility of the family.

We expect all participants in the program to be prepared and attend each week, having completed all assigned work, and having invested time into independent study.

We also expect students to attend all sessions, be on time, and to show proper respect for their peers and the staff operating the program.

A student's acceptance into the StuyPrep program does not guarantee that he/she/they will be invited to continue in the program to its end. In particular, StuyPrep will choose not to invite students to participate in later phases of the program in cases of two or more unexplained absences, lateness, poor behavior, or lack of motivation.
